Portugal breaks renewable energy production record in 2025
Portugal has reached a new milestone on its journey towards energy sustainability. On 27 January 2025, at 7:15 p.m., the national electricity system recorded a production of 10,845 MW from renewable sources, surpassing the previous record of 10,434 MW set in March 2024.
This achievement not only demonstrates the country's commitment to the energy transition, but also reinforces the importance of investing in sustainable solutions for the future.
📊 Contribution of renewables to national consumption
In the first 27 days of January 2025, renewable energy supplied 72% of total electricity consumption in Portugal. The main sources were:

Wind energy: 34%

Hydropower: 28%

Biomass: 5%
Furthermore, natural gas production represented 14% of consumption, and the electricity import balance also stood at 14%.
